About Us
Imagine, Design, Create: Empowering Makers of All Levels
Our Story

Drawing inspiration from the original lab concept developed by Professor Deon de Beer in South Africa, Dr. David Prawel founded Idea2Product (I2P) at Colorado State University (CSU). Credited with putting South Africa on the additive manufacturing “map”, Professor de Beer recognized the transformative potential of 3D printing and developed the I2P concept to make these technologies accessible to everyone.

I2P has grown to what it is today thanks to the passion and dedication of our students and faculty. Today, the I2P Lab serves as a dynamic hub for creativity, innovation, and hands-on learning, making advanced manufacturing technologies like 3D printing accessible to everyone.

Our mission is to empower CSU students, local teachers, and K-12 students by providing hands-on 3D printing experiences, specialized training, and project consultation. We focus on fostering creativity and supporting educational and personal growth through a welcoming, multidisciplinary environment. We also extend our knowledge to the local K-12 community, offering programs to inspire and educate young learners.

Our vision is to be the leading community resource for 3D printing, where people from the community can come together to learn, create, and innovate. I2P continues to thrive thanks to the dedication of the students and faculty who have shaped it into a space for inspiration and learning.
